✦ Hot Tips For Success! ✦

PREPARATION

➤ Build on a strong foundation

When students struggle and feel stressed in English, it is often due to a lack of foundation. Get help early so that you have the right skills and knowledge to build on in senior years!

➤ Practice makes perfect

You'll often hear this phrase but do not be fooled. This statement only applies with REGULAR, FREQUENT practice. Cramming before every exam doesn't count!

➤ Develop critical thinking skills early

These skills take longer to develop than people think. Don’t leave it until Year 12 to practice them or get the help you need!

MAKE A GOOD IMPRESSION

➤ Correct spelling, grammar, syntax and structure is more important to examiners than you think!

➤ Stand out by addressing context, purpose, structure, stylistic and grammatical features, and form if __.possible. These can shape meaning too – not just what is being said!

➤ Become familiar with literary devices and metalanguage.

EXAM TECHNIQUES

➤ You won’t get marks for writing markers can’t read! Many students overlook the importance of legibility.

Do not make this mistake!

➤ Physical exercise will help you write fast and neat.

Use a stress ball for 5 minutes or finish a page of writing as fast as you can every day.

➤ Always directly address the question / stimulus by using words from the question.

Failure to do so will be heavily penalised.

➤ Don’t go overtime in exams and stick to the time limit for each section.

Even 5 minutes extra could be extremely detrimental. If you really need to, leave that ONE section incomplete and come back to it later instead of rushing to finish MULTIPLE other sections later.

we make it possible.

YOU MAKE IT HAPPEN.
